Shadows (cast by buildings, characters, vegetation) are completely missing from
the 3d world in Settlers VI: Rise of an Empire game, tested with game version
1.7.1.
Reproduced with nouveau/mesa git and nvidia binary drivers 340.76 too.
Disabling in-game anti aliasing, changing graphical detail level or disabling
GLSL doesn't make it better.

The problem can be reproduced in the demo version too. Install and start the
demo, then launch any of the available missions to observe the issue.

The problem is present in Wine 1.4/1.6 too.

Oops, I wasn't thorough enough when fiddling with the graphical options in the
game: reducing shader quality to the minimum makes shadows appear properly (the
game automatically disables animation, grass details and reflections in that
case).

Still an issue in wine-1.9.7-133-gad7cb43.

OpenGL vendor string: nouveau
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NV92
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.3.0-devel
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30

Confirmed for Wine 2.5. Problem occurs on both 32-bit and 64-bit wineprefixes.
My system: Xubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit, i5-6600k, Nvidia GTX 770 2GB with 375.39
drivers.

I really dont know about how things are rendered. But I googled DF24 texture
format and the wiki said that it can also include stencil depth then I googled
what that means. And it gave short example about setting some value 1 or 0 and
after that it said its often used to shadows on 3d rendering.

This is not the only game that wine is lacking shadows. Could this be the
reason?
